Cherry Tree Planting Ceremony at the Hermann Park Japanese Garden on October 19, 2012

Mayor Annise D. Parker and Consul-General Yamamoto will hold the Japanese Cherry Tree Planting Ceremony at 1:30 in the afternoon at the Hermann Park Japanese Garden on Friday, October 19, 2012. The ceremony will commemorate the first planting of cherry blossom saplings which were given to the People of the United States from the People of Japan in 1912 as a gift of friendship.

In addition to marking the Japan-U.S. Cherry Blossom Centennial, the ceremony will also celebrate 40 years of friendship between the City of Houston and Chiba City, Japan. Representatives from the Houston Parks and Recreational Department, Hermann Park Conservancy, Japan-America Society of Houston, Japan Business Association of Houston, Japanese Association of Greater Houston and Japanese Citizens League will also attend the ceremony.
