Review on the “Requirements for Beef and Beef Products to be exported to Japan from the United States of America”
- The Governments of Japan and the United States concurred that the export of beef and beef products to Japan from the United States of America will be conducted according to the new “Requirements for Beef and Beef Products to be Exported to Japan from the United States of America,” beginning as of February 1, 2013. The letters respectively signed by Japanese Ambassador Kenichiro Sasae and by American Trade Representative Ambassador Ron Kirk and Secretary of Agriculture Thomas Vilsack were exchanged on January 25 2013 in Washington D.C.
- The review on the Requirements was finalized by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare through bilateral consultations and other necessary procedures on the basis of the Risk Assessment Report by the Japanese Food Safety Commission in October 2012 related to the countermeasures against bovine spongiform encephalopathy(BSE).
