The City of Fort Worth Proclaimed March 5, 2013 as Centennial Celebration of Cherry Tree Gift Day at its City Council MeetingOn March 5, the City Council of Fort Worth proclaimed that day as Centennial Celebration of Cherry Tree Gift Day of Fort Worth, and handed the Proclamation to Consul-General Jota Yamamoto who attended the Council meeting. To celebrate the centennial of Japan-US cherry tree gift, 20 cherry blossom saplings were presented to the Botanic Garden of Fort Worth on November 17, 2012. Consul-General Yamamoto thanked the City as people of Fort Worth have cherished and blessed these saplings, and presented the plaque to Mayor Pro Tempore W. B. Zimmerman to pray for friendship to bloom for another 100 year. The attendance of President Harvey Yamagata & members of Fort Worth Japanese Association, all dressed in Kimono, many other people making this celebration possible, and the team of Dondoko Daiko who demonstrated drum performance, added further color to the Council Chamber. |
