On Saturday, September 28, five recently returned members of the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program, together with 16 members of the Japan-United States Teacher Exchange (JUSTE) Program were honored during a luncheon reception at the official residence of the Consul General of Japan in Houston. Guests included JET Program alumni, supporters and members of the local Japanese Business community to create an event not only for friendly introductions, but also business-related networking for the newly returned JETs.
Acting Consul-General Takahiko Watabe gave welcoming remarks focused on the goals of both the JET and JUSTE Programs: international relations and cultural understanding through grassroots-level exchange. Mr. Watabe welcomed the five JET Program returnees who have returned to Texas from two and three years abroad teaching English in various locations throughout Japan and also welcomed the JUSTE Program participants who will spend six months at Austin to study ESL Teaching methods.
The afternoon concluded successfully with about 60 participants to the reception despite the rainy Saturday afternoon. |
