Japan-America Society of Houston Hosted Welcome Luncheon for Consul-General and Mrs. Nozomu Takaoka (October 11, 2013)

  On Friday, October 11, the Japan-America Society of Houston (JASH) hosted a welcome luncheon for Consul-General of Japan and Mrs. Nozomu Takaoka at the downtown Houston Petroleum Club.  JASH President JJ Naoki, JASH Vice President Bill Weiland, JASH Executive Director Patsy Brown, the JASH Board of Directors, and many society members gathered to welcome Consul-General Takaoka and his wife to Houston. Distinguished guests included President of the Japan Business Association of Houston, Tatsuo Doko (President of Toshiba) ; President of the Japanese Association for Greater Houston, Hiro Matsumura; together with representatives from the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Asia Society Texas Center, and other representatives from Japanese companies based in Houston.  

Following opening remarks by JASH President Naoki, Consul-General Takaoka expressed his gratitude for JASH’s warm reception and praised the society for their achievements and their role of leadership in promoting the U.S.-Japan relations for 45 years.  Consul-General Takaoka also spoke of the increasing interest that Japan has in the economy of Houston and the State of Texas.  He expressed his wish to use this interest as an opportunity to work together with leaders of the Japan-America Society of Houston to further the exchange between the U.S. and Japan. 

At the end of the luncheon JASH President Naoki presented Consul-General and Mrs. Takaoka with a Texas gift to commemorate the occasion.
