| On January 22nd and 23rd, the Consulate-General of Japan in Houston and the Japan-America Society of Houston (JASH) shared Japanese culture with the greater Houston community through two consecutive nights of Japanese film.  The event held at and in collaboration with Rice University featured Always Sunset on Third Street(ALWAYS三丁目の夕日)and Ping Pong.   The films were chosen in light of the recent selection of Tokyo as the host for the 2020 Olympics.  Both films celebrate the Olympic Spirit and the first film in the two-night series, Always Sunset on Third Street, was set in Japan before the first Tokyo Olympics in 1964. Deputy Consul-General Takahiko Watabe was present at the opening night of the event and gave welcoming remarks.  In his remarks he thanked Japan’s friends in Texas and across the United States for their support and encouragement since the Great East Japan Earthquake.  He offered the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as an opportunity for Japan to thank the international community and show the world a new and stronger Japan. Event attendees enjoyed conversation, refreshments, and the chance to learn more about Consulate and JASH activities before and after the film screenings. |
