Consul General Takaoka attended the Ground Breaking Event for the Petra Nova Project (World's Largest Post-Combustion Carbon Capture-Enhanced Oil Recovery Project) (September 5th, 2014)

On September 5th, Consul General Takaoka attended the Ground Breaking Event for Petra Nova Project (World's Largest Post-Combustion Carbon Capture-Enhanced Oil Recovery Project ) to be built and operated by JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration and NRG Energy.

Using proven technology, the project will be a commercial scale carbon capture system that captures more than 90% of the carbon dioxide (CO2) in the processed flue gas from an existing unit at the WA Parish power plant in Fort Bent County, southwest of Houston. Through Enhanced Oil Recovery technology, the captured CO2 will increase oil production at the West Ranch oilfield from around 500 barrels per day to approximately 12,000 barrels per day.

The event was honored by the presence of Deputy Secretary of Department of Energy Daniel Poneman, Lieutenant Governor of the State of Texas David Dewhurst and President & CEO of JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation Shunsaku Miyake.
