On October 21, Consul General Nozomu Takaoka hosted the Japan America Society Houston (JASH) Appreciation Reception at the official residence and was joined by 30 JASH members. Consul General Takaoka appreciated JASH’s warm support for the Consulate General and praised its active engagement for the projects during the past one year such as JASH’s Gala, Japan Festival, Japanese language speech contest and Bento contest. He also recognized the Japan Garden in Harman Park which some JASH leaders have been making efforts to establish and maintain. He also congratulated the participation of representatives of Mitsubishi corporation and Sumitomo corporation on the JASH board and expressed his expectation for its further development and success (Link). Mr. Junjiro Naoki, President of JASH, also appreciated support from Japan related organizations, including the Consulate General, and requested their continuous support.
The reception was also an opportunity for the exchange between JASH members and the consulate officials including leaving former Deputy Consul General Takahiko Watabe, newly-appointed Deputy Consul General Atsushi Iwasaki and newly appointed Cultural Assistant Emily Gurvis.
