Opening Reception of The Art of Gaman Exhibition at Holocaust Museum in Houston (February 3, 2015)

On February 3, an opening reception of The Art of Gaman Exhibition at Holocaust Museum in Houston was held at Asia Society. The exhibition, which features artifacts by Japanese Americans who were incarcerated in internment camps during the Second World War, have been held across several cities in the US and Japan and will be open to the public in Houston from January 29 to September 20.

Consul General Nozomu Takaoka expressed his gratitude for organizers and supporters and stated that the Art of Gaman is a testament to the perseverance and resilience of Japanese Americans. He also praised the strength of American democracy which promoted events like today. (link)Exhibition Curator Delphine Hirasuna and Director of AARP (Sponsor) Texas Chapter Bob Jackson, and ABC news reporter David Ono also gave their remarks and a documentary of the internment history was shown. In the end, President of Japanese Americans Citizen League Gary Nakamura, organizer of the reception, recognized former internees and their families.
