On March 1, Japan America Society of Greater Austin (JASGA) hosted a gala for the first time and the venue was filled with approximately 75 people who were engaged in promoting the friendship between Japan and the U.S.
In his remarks (link), Consul General Takaoka praised the activities of JASGA for promoting the exchange between Japan and the U.S. and celebrated its first gala. President and Professor of Hendrix College and Former Dean of Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences at Southern Methodist University William Tsutsui gave a keynote speech and talked about his study on comparative culture on Godzilla which became very popular in the U.S.
Board Member of JASGA Hajime Nakai, Principal of Asakura Robinson Company Keiji Asakura and Director General of the Japan Foundation in New York Osamu Honda also gave their remarks and a shamisen performance by Ms. Sumie Kaneko was enjoyed by guests. In the end, President of JASGA Kako Ito who was central in organizing the gala, gave her closing remark to express her gratitude to guests’ continuous support.
