On Monday, April 20th, the Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth hosted the 2015 Sun & Star Legacy Award Dinner. Former US Ambassador to Japan and Mrs. Thomas Schieffer served as the Honorable Host for the evening. Honorary Chairman of Japan Central Railway Yoshiyuki Kasai, who has been promoting Texas High Speed Railway Project, was named the recipient of the 2015 Sun & Star Award. Mr. & Mrs. Ann & Gabriel Barbier-Muller, whose collection of Japanese Samurai armor housed at their own museum was a special exhibition at Kimbell Museum, were presented with the Bridges-to-Friendship Award. Around 400 people, including Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price and Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne, attended the dinner.
In his remarks, Consul General Nozomu Takaoka appreciated the organizers and commended Honorary Chairman Kasai’s leadership in promoting the Japan-Texas relationship and Mr. & Mrs. Barbier-Muller’s long-time efforts to introduce Japanese tradition culture (link). Honorary Chairman Kasai evaluated the strengthened relationship between Japan and the US during the 70 years after the Second World War and deepened the audience’s understanding of Texas High Speed Railway Project. |
