On Saturday, February 20th, three recently returned members of the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program were honored during a luncheon reception at the official residence of the Consul-General of Japan in Houston. Guests included JET Program alumni and supporters, representatives from the Japan America Society of Houston and local Japanese businesses.
In his opening remarks, Consul-General Testuro Amano recalled his own experience as an English language learner and commended the three Assistant Language Teachers for contributing to the internationalization of their schools and local communities in Japan. Following Consul-General Amano, Ms. Hannah Muniz spoke on behalf of the 2015 JET Returnee group. Ms. Muniz expressed gratitude for the warm reception she received from her small town in Hokkaido and highlighted her unique experience studying the indigenous language and culture of the Ainu.
After guests enjoyed refreshments and conversation the President of the Texas Oklahoma JET Alumni Association (TEXOMA JETAA), Mr. Timothy Roller, spoke. He addressed the new returnees encouraging them to stay connected to the JET alumni and supporters as they transition back to life in the US.
