| On December 6, 2016,  Consul-General and Mrs. Tetsuro Amano hosted a reception celebrating the 83rd  birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan which was attended by over 170  distinguished guests. Among the guests were Texas House of Representatives Jarvis  D. Johnson, Astronaut Souichi Noguchi, Astronaut Akihiko Hoshide, Astronaut  Nobushige Kanai, and two-time world heavyweight boxing champion  Mr. George Foreman.
 Consul-General Amano  expressed his appreciation to the guests for their support to strengthen relationship  with Japan and summarized the important events that happened during the year of  2016. (link)Following his remarks, Representative Johnson made a speech celebrating  the great relationship between Japan and Texas. Also, Congratulatory messages  for the occasion were sent from Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Congressman  Al Green, as well as Congressman John Culberson, and were each read aloud.
 
 While attending the formal part of the  reception, distinguished guests enjoyed fresh sushi from the sushi bar, with  live Koto serenaded them in the back ground. “Kaminari Taiko”, a Japanese drum  team also performed in the backyard. A newly built Toyota Tundra, brought by Toyota  Motor Manufacturing, Texas, Inc. welcomed the guests  in front while Japanese companies set up booths to introduce their companies  and products. Companies on display were DAIKIN, Hitz Hitachi  Zosen Corporation, High-Speed-Railway  Technology Consulting Corporation, and Mitsubishi  Heavy Industries America, Inc. participated  this year. The guests enjoyed Japanese culture from many different angles.
