Remarks of Consul Shinya Iwata,
on the occasion of ASME Honors Assembly
at Houston to honor H. E. Mr. Goshi Hosono
on November 12, 2012

November 12, 2012

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen,

I’m very pleased and honored to attend this ceremony on behalf of Mr. Goshi HOSONO, Policy Research Committee Chair and former Minister.

Minister HOSONO received this prestigious award as a representative on behalf of all the engineers, workers on scene, and numerous others who have bravely and dedicatedly made efforts to contain the radioactive materials and strived to advance the road map toward the settlement of TEPCO Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.

In addressing the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident, we have received great support from the United States, without which would have led to great difficulties in progressing the roadmap as planned. Minister HOSONO would like to take tonight’s occasion to express his deep gratitude to the United States and he feels very honored to receive the award offered by American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), one of the renowned American Organizations.

Finally, on behalf of Japanese people and the country of Japan as a whole, I would again like to express our appreciation for the warm and invaluable support of the United States following the tragic accident.

Thank you.
