On October 5th, Consul-General Fukushima attended an event called “Building a leadership network for women” hosted by the US-Japan Council in Dallas, Texas upon invitation.

This was the first ever event in Texas, in collaboration with “Regional Women in Leadership”, a nationwide program by the Council. Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs supports this program.

Participants such as Ms. Irene Hirano Inouye, the president of the Council, Ms. Donna Cole, the board member of the Council have actively discussed various topics including necessary social/institutional reform, necessary self-enlightenment for the working women with high skill to enhance their status in the social or business environment as leaders.  This event was a good opportunity for Japanese Government which stresses an importance on "A Society where women shine" to deal with this common social and economic agenda on grassroots level together with the United States.  The US is taking initiative in this agenda.
