On September 19, the Consulate-General and the Honorary Consul of Switzerland co-hosted a reception in honor of the Tokyo String Quartet. The reception was held at the residence of the Consul-General of Japan and welcomed the quartet members. Many guests representing music and other cultural organizations as well as the consular corps attended. In his remarks (→link) Consul-General Yamamoto thanked the quartet for its great and long-standing contribution to the cultural diversities of Houston, which also symbolizes the value of the Japanese community which has ever respected and supported the inter-ethnic prosperities of Houston.
The Tokyo String Quartet has visited Houston every year since 1976. The quartet has announced this season to be the final season for the ensemble, thus the upcoming concert at Stude Concert Hall, Rice University at 7:30 pm on September 20 will be the quartet’s last performance in Houston.
