On Wednesday, April 13, Consul General Amano hosted a reception at his residence to celebrate two astronauts; Mr. Takuya Onishi (Japan) and Dr. Kate Rubins (US) for their planned mission to the International Space Station (ISS) on the Expedition 48/49, which will take place in June this year.
In his speech (link), Consul General Amano praised astronauts who have a sense of mission and a drive to further the noble cause of exploring the final frontier for mankind.
The two astronauts each received Congressional Proclamations signed by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. Consul General Amano was also awarded a Congressional Recognition by the Congresswoman.
There were approximately 100 participants at the reception. Among them, there were two other Japanese astronauts, Mr. Soichi Noguchi and Mr. Norishige Kanai; the Regional Directors of the Office of Foreign Missions and the US Department of State; the Russian Consul General; officers of NASA; officers of JAXA; as well as members of the Japanese Business Association of Houston, and the Japan America Society of Houston.
