Honored Guests, Members of the Japan American Society of Dallas and Fort Worth, Ladies and Gentlemen:

 

I am very pleased to take part in this proud tradition of the annual Japan America of Dallas Fort Worth Awards Dinner and I am honored to be among your high profile guests this evening.As always, the evening has scored a great turnout with a nice mix of Japanese and Americans here to enjoy this auspicious, as well as festive occasion enhanced all the more by the impeccable arrangements of your Board Members and staff and, of course, the good food.

 

Before I offer a toast to begin this grand dinner, please allow me to say that I firmly believe that the Japan America Society is a very important organization and to thank you all for the important work that you do towards the goal of continuing to strengthen the Japan-U.S. relationship at the grass roots level.

 

I am very happy to be here with you all this evening as you honor two outstanding Japanese Americans who have done so much to encourage and enhance this relationship.Mr. George Takei and Mrs. Elaine Yamagata have both been recognized by my home government for their great contributions to the friendship between our two countries.

 

Please join me in raising your glasses to offer congratulations to Mr. Takei and Mrs. Yamagata for their being awarded the 2006 Sun & Star Legacy Award and the 2006 Bridges to Friendship Award respectively by the Japan America Society of Dallas Fort Worth.Kampai!
