Teacher-Training Scholarship

The Teachers' In-Service Training Scholarships are intended to help provide professional development opportunities in Japan for currently credentialed teachers.

QUALIFICATIONS (for 2011 Scholarship)

  • AGE: Applicants have been born on or after April 2, 1976.
  • ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have graduated from a university or teacher-training school and have worked as a teacher in their home country for at least five years by April 1, 2011 (In-service university faculty are not eligible)
  • LANGUAGE: Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese and receive research guidance in that language. Applicants must also have the ability to do research in Japanese and to adapt to life in Japan.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 4, 2011.

EXAMINATION AND INTERVIEW (TENTATIVE): March 18, 2011.

ARRIVAL IN JAPAN: Applicants must be able to arrive in Japan within two weeks of the starting day of classes at their Japanese university. This will generally be in October 2011.

SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS

PLEASE NOTE THAT BENEFIT AMOUNTS FOR 2011 HAVE NOT YET BEEN ESTABLISHED. 2010 benefits are listed below, but are subject to revision in 2011.

  • ALLOWANCE: 152,000 yen per month. (Subject to change)
  • TRANSPORTATION: Successful applicants will receive an economy-class air ticket to and from Japan.
  • SCHOOL FEES: The Japanese Government will pay Fees for entrance examinations, matriculation and tuition at universities.
