Government Scholarships

Each year, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho) offers scholarships to international students, providing hundreds with the opportunity to live and study in Japan.To date, some 65,000 students from approximately 160 countries and regions around the world have studied in Japan under the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship program established in 1954.As of May 1, 2005, there were 9,891 foreign students studying in Japan as Japanese government scholarship students.There are five types of Monbukagakusho scholarships (see below).If you do not fit the requirements of these scholarships, and would like explore more options for educational opportunities in Japan, please visit the Study in Japan Comprehensive Guide website at www.studyjapan.go.jp.


JAPANESE STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP

The Japanese Studies Scholarships are for undergraduate students who wish to pursue Japan-related studies.This program offers students an opportunity to study Japanese language and culture for one year in Japan.
