Japanese Speech Contest
In 2016 the Japan America Society of Houston (JASH), with support from the Consulate-General of Japan in Houston, will host the 27th Annual Texas State Japanese Language Speech Contest. The State Speech Contest welcomes students who have qualified by placing in one of four regional contests held across Texas: Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston.
This year the contest will feature a new division, the Haiku Division, which will require students to create an original haiku inspired by one of four pre-selected “master” haiku written by famous Japanese poets.
The Houston Regional speech Contest will be held in mid-February. Registration information will be made available soon on both the Consulate and JASH websites. Information directing students outside of the Houston region will also be available on these websites in the coming weeks.
Potential participants are encouraged to begin preparing for their preferred division by referencing the 2016 Texas State Japanese Language Speech Contest Handbook, available below.  Inquiries should be directed to speech.contest@ho.mofa.go.jp .
