2022/3/22

On March 14, Consul General Murabayashi paid a courtesy call to the Mayor of San Antonio, Mr. Ron Nirenberg.
At the meeting, Mayor Nirenberg emphasized that the City of San Antonio has attached great importance to partnership with Japan through initiatives such as the sister city exchange with Kumamoto City, which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, and the industrial partnership with Mie Prefecture, which has been ongoing since 2014. He expressed his hope to resume face-to-face exchanges, which have been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as soon as possible.
Consul General Murabayashi mentioned that San Antonio continues to attract a great deal of attention from Japan, as evidenced by the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the State of Texas regarding support for small and medium-sized enterprises. Mayor Nirenberg explained that the city of San Antonio is recently focusing on training a highly-skilled industrial workforce and can be an investment destination that meets the demands of Japanese companies with high technological capabilities, so he hopes to see more Japanese companies expand into the area.
On March 13, prior to the courtesy call, Consul General Murabayashi visited the "Kumamoto-en" in the San Antonio Botanical Garden. The "Kumamoto-en" is a Japanese garden donated by Kumamoto City to the City of San Antonio in 1989 and has become a symbol of the sister city relationship between the two cities.
