Consul General Murabayashi Joins Opening Ceremony of Anime Matsuri 2022

Consul General Murabayashi was invited to attend the opening ceremony of Anime Matsuri 2022, which was held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston from July 28-31.
Since its inception in 2007, Anime Matsuri has expanded year after year with the support of Japanese pop culture fans in the area, and is now one of the largest Amime conventions in the United States.
The convention featured countless booths selling Japanese anime, manga, cosplay and fashion goods, as well as various workshops, concerts and other activities. Attendees were able to experience traditional Japanese culture through activities including a sumo tournament and Japanese drum, shamisen, and kabuki performances. Droves of costumed attendees could be seen enjoying the festivities late into the night.
At the opening ceremony, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner appeared in costume to welcome Anime Matsuri 2022 and congratulate its steady growth and success in promoting the internationalism and diversity of the city of Houston.
Consul General Murabayashi appeared wearing Ultraman goods and thanked the organizers, the city of Houston and the audience for embracing and loving Japanese pop culture with originality and respect. In closing, he stated that he would be very grateful if this opportunity could further stimulate interest in Japan.
During the event, Consulate-General of Japan in Houston maintained a booth and gave two presentations in order to offer Japanese cultural experiences to attendees.(Details)
