On November 17, Consul General Murabayashi visited the "Kyoto Garden" at Science Museum Oklahoma (SMO).

Kyoto Garden is a Japanese garden donated in 1985 by Kyoto Prefecture to commemorate its sister state relationship and exchange with Oklahoma. The garden had fallen into severe disrepair due to repeated hurricanes, tornadoes, and the passage of time, but in October of this year, four Japanese master gardeners were dispatched by the Kyoto Prefecture Landscaping Cooperative Association (Kyotofu Zouen Kyodo Kumiai) to restore the site.

On October 29, Japan-America Society of Oklahoma held a commemorative event to celebrate the restoration. (Their work and the commemoration were featured in a series of articles posted October 23 to 29, 2022 on the Japan-America Society of Oklahoma's Facebook page).

During the tour, SMO's garden representative commented on the many local volunteers who participated in the restoration under the guidance of the master gardeners, including one gardener who was part of the site’s creation in 1985.  He emphasized how the restoration was a symbol that reaffirmed the sister states bonds and the strengthening of that relationship into the future.  Having received guidance from the master gardeners, the representative assured every effort would be made to maintain the Kyoto Garden moving forward.
