On January 18th, Sendai Mayor Kohri paid a courtesy visit to Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, with  Consul General Murabayashi attending the visit. During the following welcome ceremony at Dallas City Hall, both mayors reflected on the 25th anniversary of the international friendship city relationship, expressed their gratitude to those involved, and shared their determination to further promote exchange in the future. As a token of friendship, Mayor Johnson presented a "Friendship Key" to Mayor Kohri with the message, "Our door is always open to Sendai." Mayor Kohri presented a traditional crafted clock to Mayor Johnson with the message "Let’s mark the passage of time together.”

Additionally, the City of Sendai gifted a stone lantern to the City of Dallas to mark the 25-year friendship.  This unveiling took place on January 19th at the Anne and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum, which is famed for its Samurai Collection.  The lantern is crafted from Akiu-ishi, a regional variety of volcanic tuff and a specialty of Sendai City.  Prior to this, Dallas gifted a bronze bell named the “Dallas Song of Friendship,” with the unveiling ceremony held in Sendai during December of last year.

The Sendai delegation visited Japanese companies in the Dallas area, as well as the University of Texas at Dallas. They departed Dallas on January 20.
