Consul General Murabayashi hosted the Japanese National Day Reception in celebration of the 63rd birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan on February 22 at Hyatt Regency Houston, which was attended by over 100 distinguished guests.

After vocal solos of the national anthems of Japan and the United States, Consul General Murabayashi reported the current Japan-U.S. and Japan-Texas/Oklahoma relations and expressed his appreciation to the guests for their support in strengthening those ties.

Ms. Katherine Ho, the Regional Director in Houston of the U.S. Department of State spoke about the strengthening U.S.–Japan alliance in the current international situation, remarking that Japan is a cherished partner for the United States. The Honorable Dave Martin, the Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Houston, recalled last year’s economic development mission to Japan and presented Mayor Sylvester Turner’s proclamation to honor the 63rd birthday of the Emperor of Japan.

Then, messages were presented from Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, and San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg, as well as U.S. Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz. At last, Consul General proposed a toast.

Guests enjoyed Japanese food for dinner, including sushi, tempura, yakitori and karaage, paired with wine produced by a Japanese wine maker in California. Three booths were set up for JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency), Nagano Prefecture, and the Consulate-General of Japan in Houston.
