Discussion with Henry Cisneros, President of the Naoko Mitsui Shirane Foundation

On May 15, Consul General Naganuma visited the Naoko Mitsui Shirane Foundation※ and met with president of the organization, Henry Cisneros, who co-authored The Texas Triangle and formerly served as secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and mayor of San Antonio.

Mr. Cisneros expressed gratitude for Japanese companies aiding in the in the economic development of Texas. He also remarked that the sister city relationship between Kumamoto and San Antonio, made possible by the late Naoko Shirane, is one of the most prosperous in the United States.

Consul General Naganuma and Mr. Cisneros agreed to continue strengthening Japan-Texas relations in various spheres such as economy, culture, and education.
 
The Naoko Mitsui Shirane Foundation was established to honor the legacy of late Naoko Shirane (1926-2013), who served as Senior Adviser to the State of Texas and Director of the State of Texas Japan Office. With the aim of inspiring the next generation through international exchange, the foundation sends high school students from Texas to various cities in Japan including Kumamoto, the sister city of San Antonio.
