Consul General Naganuma spoke with Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt on August 21 and Oklahoma Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell on August 20.
 
With Japan being the second largest investor in Oklahoma, Consul General expressed hope that economic relations would continue to flourish. Moreover, he noted the opportunity to deepen cultural exchanges in 2025 as Kyoto Prefecture and the State of Oklahoma celebrate the 40th anniversary of their sister-state relationship. Consul General also highlighted that the consulate would co-host a symposium on disaster management with the University of Oklahoma in December, noting Japan and Oklahoma’s shared challenge of grappling with natural disasters. Consul General stated that he would like to pursue further cooperation with Oklahoma in the field of disaster prevention.
 
In response, Governor Stitt and Lt. Governor Pinnell both welcomed Japan's initiative to host the Disaster Management Symposium. They also agreed to further develop Japan-Oklahoma relations with regards to economic ties and the sister-state relationship with Kyoto Prefecture. Additionally, Governor Stitt expressed admiration for Japanese culture’s emphasis on respecting elders, and Lt. Governor Pinnell outlined his efforts to promote tourism through revitalizing the historic Route 66 as its 100th anniversary celebration approaches.
