Consul-General Presents Anime Matsuri with Commendation

On April 7-9, 2017, the 11th annual Anime Matsuri was held at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Mayor Turner proclaimed Friday, April 7 “Anime Matsuri Day” in Houston and cut the ribbon to officially begin the convention.
Deputy Consul-General Iwasaki gave remarks during the Opening Ceremony on Friday afternoon, and presented Anime Matsuri co-founders, Deneice and John Leigh, with a Certificate of Commendation on behalf of Consul-General Amano. Consulate staff hosted a booth introducing origami and the JET Program to convention-goers. Additionally, the Consulate hosted a panel focusing on language and culture in anime. Nearly 100 guests attended the panel.
On Sunday evening, Consul-General Amano hosted a small reception for Anime Matsuri performers, staff, and local supporters. Deneice Leigh presented Consul-General with an award in appreciation of his on-going support.
