On January 13th, Consul-General Fukushima took part in a traditional Japanese “mochitsuki” New Year’s celebration, which was hosted by the Japan America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth and sponsored by Fujitsu Network Communications, where rice was pounded with wooden mallets into mochi rice-cake.
This year marks the 19th such annual celebration, and about 1,173 people participated together in the New Year’s festivities, including numerous Japanese expatriates and members of the local community such as Mayor Voelker of Richardson Texas.
Consul-General Fukushima became the first holder of his office to take part in this celebration’s mochi pounding, and enjoyed the traditional Japanese culture and food on display together with everyone who participated in this harmonious occasion.
