Japan Festival Houston 2019

2019/5/10
On April 14th and 15th for two days, the 26th annual Japan Festival Houston was held in Hermann Park, which is also home to the city’s Japanese garden.

Japan Festival Houston has grown to be one of the leading international festivals in the region, and this year’s event attracted around 35,000 visitors, largely consisting of local fans of Japanese culture, who experienced the festivities under favorable weather.

As is typical for the event, the large venue was packed with exhibitions, demonstrations, and shops all relating to traditional and contemporary Japanese culture, along with fun activities for children. Many of the region’s most popular Japanese restaurants were also present, and the festival was bustling with activity up until its conclusion.

Among these exhibitors and vendors, The Consulate-General of Japan in Houston opened a booth where many families enjoyed making traditional Japanese kites, and stamping them with the name of the new imperial era “Reiwa”.

The Consulate-General also sponsored musicians such as the Yano Brothers, a group of 3 vocalists, and Sachet, a band playing traditional Japanese and Western instruments, who exhilarated the audience with their lively performances on the festival’s main stage.
