On August 20th Consul-General Fukushima paid a courtesy call to the newly inaugurated Mayor of Dallas, Mr. Eric Johnson. Even though Mayor Johnson was only recently elected to his office in June, he is very popular with residents of the city, and is deeply engaged in many aspects of municipal government, including economic and community development.
Consul-General Fukushima expressed his sincere gratitude to Mayor Johnson for so warmly supporting the region’s Japanese community and businesses, which have come to be a thriving part of the Dallas economy. He also thanked the Mayor for cultivating friendship with the City of Sendai, a sister city of Dallas for over 20 years, by receiving a group of middle and high school students visiting from Sendai soon after his inauguration.
Mayor Johnson said that grassroots exchange with the people of Sendai is very important to his city, and also expressed his hope that Japanese companies with advance technological and business capabilities would continue to expand and flourish in the Dallas economy.
