On August 29th, Consul-General Fukushima paid a courtesy call to Representative Pete Olson, the Republican congressman representing the southwestern suburbs of Houston in the U.S. House.

Congressman Olson has over 10 years of experience as a representative, but prior to his career in politics, he served as a pilot in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on military bases in Misawa and Okinawa Japan.

Those experiences led the congressman to support good relations with the people of Japan, and during the discussion he emphasized the importance of the US-Japan alliance for regional peace and stability.

Japanese technological innovations in the energy and manufacturing sectors were also discussed as being important for the sustainable development of the Texas economy. Together, both men affirmed their belief in the partnership between their nations, and expressed their hope to see it further strengthen in the future.
