2019/10/1

On September 21st, Consul-General Fukushima was invited to attend the annual “Aki Matsuri” Fall Festival hosted in San Antonio by the city’s Japan-America Society. This year’s festival was held in the evening, and it brought many attendees together in San Antonio’s botanical garden, where lush seasonal plants have been cultivated. While the botanical gardens feature a beautiful Japanese garden where citizens come to relax, it was unfortunately in the process being renovated.

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg attended the opening ceremony with his wife, where he spoke about how important friendship and exchange with Japan is for his city. The Consul-General also made remarks, expressing his hopes that the festival would draw local residents closer to Japan and Japanese culture, and revealing that Mayor Nirenberg and his wife are planning an upcoming to visit to San Antonio’s Sister City of Kumamoto.

Since this year’s festival took place in the evening, participants were able to enjoy the various traditional Japanese performing and martial arts on exhibit, and sample a wide variety of Japanese food stalls in the refreshing evening breeze.
