On October 2nd, Consul-General Fukushima paid a courtesy call to Congressman Al Green, who is a Democrat serving southwest Houston in the US House of Representatives.
Representative Green has long served his district, having been first inaugurated in 2005, and is also a member of the US-Japan Congressional Caucus.
The Consul-General thanked the Congressman for all of his efforts in strengthening the Japan-Texas relationship, including the warm support he has shown to the Japanese community in Houston, and the honor of his attendance at the Emperor’s Birthday Reception that the Consulate hosted last year.
Representative Green spoke of his deep respect for the people and culture of Japan, with their values of politeness and modesty, and discussed the many close friendships he has built over the years with Japanese-Americans in Houston, a city of known for its ethnic and cultural diversity. The Congressman also spoke to the importance of the US-Japan relationship, stressing that it should be further developed over the long run, and expressed his own desire to visit Japan in the near future.
