On October 4th, Consul-General Fukushima was invited to attend a gala dinner commemorating 51 years since the founding of the Japan-America Society of Houston (JASH). Over its long history, JASH has made significant contributions toward strengthening Houston’s ties with Japan, and has promoted exchange across many areas, including culture, education, and business. In particular, JASH’s work on the annual Japan Festival Houston, and Houston’s youth exchange program with its Sister City of Chiba, have been critical to building friendship and mutual understanding between the people of Japan and Houston.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott attended the gala as its guest of honor, after having just successfully completed a week-long economic development mission to Japan. In his remarks, Governor Abbott said that his mission to Japan was a great success that would further strengthen the partnership between Japan and Texas in the areas of trade, investment, and cultural exchange. He went on to offer words of praise for the achievements of JASH, saying that his trip would not have been possible without their efforts.
