Consul-General Fukushima took part in the Austin Japan Community’s “Kick Off” event (October 19, 2019)

On October 19th, Consul-General Fukushima was invited to the Texas capital city of Austin, where he took part in the “Kick Off” event for the Austin Japan Community (AJC), celebrating their new non-profit status obtained earlier this year.

AJC is a group that serves the area’s Japanese community by developing connections among Japanese expats and local residents, and facilitating greater cultural exchange and friendship through collaborations with groups like the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce and the Austin-Oita Sister City Committee.

Many people involved in these efforts gathered to celebrate the tremendous strides AJC has made as a non-profit over the past year, and the Consul-General thanked each of them for their contributions. He also expressed his appreciation for everything AJC has done to support the region’s flourishing Japanese community, including their exchange activities involving local residents and Sister Cities.

Another topic of discussion at the event was the many contributions AJC have also made to the local community, including their volunteer activities in the “Keep Austin Beautiful” city beautification effort.
