Consul-General Fukushima receives JASH Leadership Award
2020/12/17

On December 3, 2020, the Japan-America Society of Houston (JASH) hosted an online 52nd Anniversary Gala, celebrating their long history of building Japan-U.S. relations and recognizing others in the Houston area who have done the same.
Consul-General Hideo Fukushima was honored with the J. Thomas Schieffer Leadership Award, which recognizes distinguished leaders for contributions to strengthening the Japan-U.S. alliance. During the bestowal, JASH thanked Mr. Fukushima for supporting their efforts and for his role in building bonds between Japan and Houston, such as his work organizing Governor Greg Abbott’s trade mission to Japan.
The Japan Business Association of Houston (JBAH) received the Houston-Japan Friendship Award, which honors local individuals and organizations for contributions to the fostering of Japan-America friendship and understanding in Houston. JASH selected JBAH for this award due to their generosity and local-mindedness, including their generous donations to Houston-area COVID relief funds and the provision of hundreds of bento meals to frontline healthcare workers.
Many distinguished guests joined JASH in their virtual celebration, including Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, Bob Harvey (president of the Greater Houston Partnership Project), Ichiro Fujisaki (former Japanese ambassador to the United States), and JAXA astronaut, Akihiko Hoshide. The full celebration can be viewed at the link below.
