2021/9/29

Consul-General Fukushima was invited to attend the grand opening ceremony for the plant of AW Texas, Inc. in Cibolo near San Antonio, which was held on September 17. The plant was opened by the Aisin Corporation, a member of Toyota group.
Aisin started construction on the plant in November 2019, and it opened in September 2021 just as planned, in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic which has been ongoing since 2020. Aisin’s AW Texas plant, which is a $400 million investment, plans to employ up to 900 people and to produce up to 200,000 automatic and hybrid vehicle transmissions annually. This new plant will mainly supply Toyota’s nearby plant in San Antonio, which produces pickup trucks.
Consul-General Fukushima delivered a congratulatory speech at the ceremony. In his speech, Consul-General Fukushima mentioned that Texas Governor Greg Abbott has been personally enthusiastic about this project, and the State of Texas has given full support for its realization. Consul-General Fukushima also said it was his great pleasure to attend the grand opening of this important plant before the end of his three years tenure as the Consul-General of Japan in Houston, adding that the partnership between Texas and Japanese business had grown so strong in the last few years thanks to Texas’s highly qualified workers and its business-friendly investment climate.
