On July 28, the Consulate-General of Japan in Houston hosted the "JET Program: A Pre-Departure Orientation and Send-off Reception" at its official residence. This event is held annually for JET Program participants departing from Texas and Oklahoma. The welcome reception was the first since 2019, a four-year hiatus, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the pre-departure orientation, a travel agency representative and the JET coordinator at Consulate-General of Japan in Houston explained what to expect when leaving the U.S and entering Japan and how to start up life in Japan, and Professor Ozaki of Rice University introduced useful Japanese language and culture information for living in Japan.

At the reception, Consul General Murabayashi began by introducing the JET Program as a long-running Japanese international person-to-person exchange program that has continued to grow since its inception in 1987, with more than 5,000 participants from around the world, and expressed his hopes that the 73 promising participants would have successful careers in Japan. The JET Program participants were represented by an ALT and a CIR, and finally, the JET Alumni Association (JETAA Texas and Oklahoma Chapter) offered words of encouragement to the 73 participants.

The reception was attended by approximately 80 people, including 73 JET Program participants, JETAA Texas-Oklahoma Chapter staff, and JET Program supporters. The JET Program participants had the opportunity to interact not only with other JET Program participants, but also with JETAA Texas-Oklahoma Chapter officials, JET Program supporters, and Consulate-General of Japan in Houston.

The Consulate-General of Japan in Houston sincerely hopes that all 73 participants will be active in their local communities throughout Japan.
