The Consul General's Commendation(Mrs. Nanako Tingleaf)

 On March 11, Consul General Murabayashi hosted a reception and presented the Consul General’s commendation to Mrs. Nanako Tingleaf, Past Chapter President of Ikebana International Houston Chapter, in recognition of her many years of contributions to mutual understanding and friendship between the United States and Japan through ikebana.

 At the ceremony, Consul General Murabayashi expressed his respect for Mrs. Nanako Tingleaf’s many years of dedication to the promotion of ikebana in Houston, including her role as Chapter President of the Houston Chapter of Ikebana International. He also noted her contributions promoting Japanese culture in Houston as a board member of the Japan-America Society of Houston, a member of the Japanese Garden Advisory Committee of the Hermann Park Conservancy, and as a past board member of the Asia Society of Texas Center. Consul General Murabayashi also noted his appreciation for Mrs. Tingleaf’s support of ikebana production at events hosted by the Consulate General, including the Emperor's Birthday Reception.

 In response, Mrs. Nanako Tingleaf expressed her gratitude for the recognition of her efforts to promote Japanese culture through ikebana and other activities in the nearly 60 years she has lived in Texas since her university studies and expressed her appreciation for the award. In closing, she thanked the representatives from Ikebana International Houston Chapter, the Japan-America Society of Houston, the Japanese Association of Greater Houston, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and other organizations, and her family members attending the reception.

 Afterwards, representatives of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and the Japan-America Society of Houston also made remarks and honored Mrs. Tingleaf’s accomplishments.
