Discussion with Galveston Mayor Craig Brown

On July 2nd, Consul General Naganuma met and exchanged opinions with Galveston Mayor Craig Brown.
 
Consul General spoke highly of Galveston’s impressive tourism assets and emphasized the importance of strengthening economic ties between Japan and Galveston, particularly in the tourism sector.
 
Consul General Naganuma and Mayor Brown expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming 60th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Niigata and Galveston. They agreed to further strengthen the sister city relationship through a series of welcoming events. Consul General Naganuma also suggested that the two cities could collaborate on disaster prevention and mitigation efforts. Mayor Brown then gave an overview of Galveston’s disaster initiatives, including the development of a stormwater master plan.
 
(Subsequently, Consul General Naganuma extended a message of sympathy to Mayor Brown following the July 8th hurricane that caused severe damage to the City of Galveston. Mayor Brown conveyed his gratitude in response.)
