Tanabata Matsuri
2024/7/29

On July 21st, the Consulate-General of Japan in Houston held a Tanabata Festival at Children’s Museum Houston. Co-hosted with Children’s Museum Houston, this annual event offers parents and children the opportunity to experience Japanese culture associated with the Tanabata star festival.
At the event, families were introduced to Tanabata through activities such as origami, kirigami (paper cutting craft), tanzaku (colorful slips of paper used to make wishes), and a free picture book containing the story of Tanabata. The day also included kamishibai stories read and kendama performances from Kendama USA.
*We would like to offer our deepest gratitude to everyone who cooperated with the event:
Children's Museum Houston: Providing the venue and free picture books
Japan-America Society of Houston: Providing event volunteers and activity support
Mr. Dale Tingleaf and Mrs. Nanako Tingleaf: Donation of “sasa” bamboo
Mr. Michael Martin: Performance and teaching of kendama
