JET Program Pre-Departure Orientation and Send-Off Reception
2024/7/30

On July 26, the Consulate General of Japan in Houston hosted a Pre-Departure Orientation and Send-off Reception for 2024 JET Program participants at the official residence of the Consul General. This year, 65 JET Program participants from Texas and Oklahoma attended.
At the pre-departure orientation, our JET coordinator and a travel agent explained key points for the departure and arrival travel and how to start up life in Japan, and Rice University Japanese language instructor Dr. Ozaki introduced useful education, language, and cultural concepts for living and working in Japan.
At the reception, Consul General Naganuma told the participants that he hoped they would understand the unique aspects of Japanese culture through cultural pillars like Japanese food, and by experiencing and understanding deeper concepts like the values and spirit of the Japanese people. He also stated that each participant would represent the U.S. in their local communities, and that he hopes they would do their best to contribute to the development of Japan-U.S. relations as ambassadors of the U.S. in their respective regions. Next, the president of the JET Alumni Association (JETAA Texas-Oklahoma Chapter) gave a toast congratulating and encouraging the participants. To close the reception, a departing JET participant expressed their gratitude, excitement, and goals for their upcoming time in Japan on behalf of the group.
The Consulate General of Japan in Houston wishes our 65 JET Program participants the very best in their endeavors in Japan.
