On August 2, Consul-General Naganuma visited the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg where he attended a screening event for the documentary film, “Paper Lanterns.”

The documentary introduces the historical truth that 12 U.S. prisoners of war were also exposed to radiation from the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, and details the efforts of Mr. Shigeaki Mori, an atomic bomb survivor who spent nearly 40 years searching for the prisoners’ bereaved families to inform them of the facts and provide closure.

The screening was followed by a Q&A session with the film’s producer, Ms. Nobuko Saito Cleary, who joined remotely. During the session, Ms. Saito Cleary spoke about the hope for peace that she incorporated into the documentary and the challenges she encountered during filming.
