On July 25th, a pre-departure orientation and send-off reception were held at the official residence for this year's group of 41 outgoing JET Program participants.

The orientation began with a Japanese language lesson and an introduction to Japanese culture from Professor Ozaki from Rice University. Then the consulate’s JET Program Coordinator provided information about immigration procedures and the arrival schedule and gave tips for daily life in Japan.

At the send-off reception, Consul General Naganuma congratulated the JET Program participants and expressed his heartfelt wishes for their health, happiness, and great success in Japan. Then Ms. Patsy Brown (President and CEO of the Japan-America Society of Houston), Ms. Donna Cole (U.S.-Japan Council), and Ms. Taylor Campbell (President of the Texas-Oklahoma Chapter of the JET Alumni Association) offered their own words of warmth and encouragement. The event concluded with a speech from a JET Program participant, who expressed her strong commitment to engaging in activities in Japan. During the reception, representatives from the Japan Business Association of Houston provided valuable advice to the JET Program participants on how to prepare for job hunting after returning from Japan. The following day, July 26th, all the departing JET Program participants boarded their flight to Japan.
