Former Commanding General Jurney expresses his gratitude
On October 23, a conferment ceremony of the Japanese Imperial Decoration was held at the Consul General’s official residence for U. S. Marine Corps Lieutenant General (Ret.) William M. Jurney, former Commanding General of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific (also former Commanding General for 3rd Marine Division (Okinawa) and other positions). LtGen Jurney was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, as announced on April 29, in recognition of his significant contributions to strengthening relations between Japan and the United States.
Consul General Naganuma congratulated LtGen Jurney and his wife, and presented him with the decoration certificate and the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star. In response, LtGen Jurney expressed his gratitude, shared memories of exchanges with the Self-Defense Forces, and spoke about the importance of the Japan-U.S. alliance.
