Digital Nomad Visa without Certificate of Eligibility

  • Visa application drop‑off hours are from 9:30–12:00 p.m. ONLY, Monday–Friday (excluding holidays and weekends).
  • DO NOT staple or clip documents. DO NOT attach stickynotes or tabs.
  • All the documents must be written in Japanese or English ONLY.
  • Certified translation is required for documents in other languages.
  • Non-revenue flight ticket holders must submit additional documents. For details, see below.

  • We may request the submission of additional documents.
  • Each applicant must submit all documents on the following list.
Applicant must be nationals or citizens of countries/regions as shown in this chart (PDF), which are under the scope of the visa exemption arrangements (Temporary Visitor) and also subjected to Japan's Tax Conventions.

Required documents

1. ORIGINAL VALID PASSPORT
  • At least one and a half blank visa pages are required for the visa stamp.
2. COPY OF FACE PHOTOGRAPH PAGE OF PASSPORT

3. VISA APPLICATION (
Form, Sample)
  • Must be typed in English and signed (Electronic Signature is not acceptable)
  • Minors (5-year-old or younger): Requires parent's or a legal guardian's signature.
  • Do not leave any blanks. If a field is not applicable, please type "N/A" or "None".
  • An applicant with an arrest or criminal record must provide a copy of their court and/or arrest record (including cases that ended with an acquittal or pardon), along with an English translation. Even if the case did not go to trial, applicant must provide explaining the details of the arrest. We need to know about the charges, time served, fees paid, and probation (if any) for our examination.
  • Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Turkmenistan, Belarus and Moldova Nationals are required to submit 2 application forms with photograph.
4. ONE PASSPORT SIZE PHOTOGRAPH (2x2 inch or 2x1.4 inch) 
  • The photograph must be in color (black-and-white photos are not accepted).
  • The photograph must have been taken within the last six (6) months.
  • White or Blue Background
  • No glasses / No fashion accessories.
  • Your face must be clearly visible/shown. 
  • No shadows on your face or in the background.
  • Printed photos on regular paper or from a home printer will NOT be accepted.
  • The photograph must be affixed to the designated space on the visa application form using GLUE ONLY. Staples or tape will NOT be accepted.
  •  No selfies. Take off your eyeglasses for your photo. Use a white or off-white background without shadows, texture, or lines. Most selfie/self-printed photos are rejected due to lack of quality.
6. Materials explaining the applicant's activity schedule during his/her stayreference format 【WORD】 【PDF】
The applicant needs to fill out a detailed activity plan, not on a monthly basis.
 
7. Tax certificate or income certificate issued in the country where the applicant worked as a document proving annual income
※ Annual income of the applicant must be at least 10 million yen at the time of application.

8. Documents proving the applicant's current work status (employment contract, certificate of employment, etc.)

9. Explanation of Coverage under Private Medical Insurance (reference format WORD PDF)

10. A copy of private medical insurance enrollment certificate and terms and conditions
※ Please submit a policy whose period of insurance corresponds to the period of your planned stay in Japan, and whose coverage includes death, injury, or illness incurred while residing in Japan.
※ The amount of compensation for treatment costs for injuries and illnesses is 10 million yen or more.
※ If the applicant will use the insurance attached to his/her credit card which can cover the coverage, please submit documents proving the coverage.
