in the Department of Administrative, Accounting, and General Affairs.

The Consulate-General of Japan in Houston is seeking a motivated individual who values teamwork and communication to fill the position of Official Driver as early as May 2026. This individual is primarily responsible for driving official vehicles. Please see below for a detailed description.
 
Recruitment Details
  • Title: Driver
  • Salary: Commensurate with experience
  • Employment Status: Full-time (Probationary period: three months, possible extension, maximum 6 months)
  • Working hours: Monday to Friday from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (one hour lunch break)
        *Lunch breaks may be taken in the vehicle, and fixed lunch hours cannot always be ensured due to operational requirements.
        *Assignments may require overtime including during weekends, public holidays, and overnight trips.
  • Location: Consulate-General of Japan in Houston, 909 Fannin Street, Suite 3000, Houston TX 77010

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Safely operating official vehicles including, sedans and vans, as specified by officials and/or the car dispatcher.
  • Observing all traffic regulations and ensuring the safety of the passengers at all times.
  • Inspecting official vehicles before and after each driving assignment and reporting any issues.
  • Maintaining awareness of traffic conditions and sharing information that could affect operations.
  • Ensuring official vehicles are mission ready (including fuel, car wash, clean up, inspection, etc.)
  • Keeping a work phone with you and being available to answer at all times.
  • Being prepared in the case of a car accident.
  • Assisting other sections of the consulate as needed.
  • Other administrative tasks as assigned; delivering, loading, unloading, and carrying items. 
Required Qualifications:
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Fluent in English
  • Valid driver’s license, experience working as a professional driver
  • Extensive knowledge of local geographic area
  • Strong work ethic
  • Punctuality and flexibility
  • Sound judgement and objectivity
Selection Process:
Screening will continue until the position is filled. Only successful candidates will be contacted.
  • First round: Document screening
  • Second round: Interview and road exam
