The Consulate‑General of Japan in Houston is seeking to hire an Administrative Staff member (Consular Affairs) as outlined below.

1. Position Details
  1. Position Title:
    Administrative Staff (Consular Affairs)
  2. Salary:
    To be determined based on qualifications and experience
  3. Employment Status:
    Full time, nonexempt permanent position
    (A three‑month probationary period applies)
  4. Working Hours:
    Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    (Lunch break: 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.)
    Frequent overtime.
    Business travel requiring overnight stays may occur (up to approximately twice per year, typically two days and one night per overnight trip).

2. Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Front‑desk, administrative, and external liaison work related to consular services, including:
    visas, passports, certificates, nationality and family registry matters, protection and assistance of Japanese nationals, overseas education for Japanese children, overseas voting, and related consular affairs
  2. Other administrative support duties as assigned
    (Limited to several days per year in connection with large‑scale events)

3. Qualifications
  1. Legal authorization to work in the United States
  2. Ability to work full‑time on site (no remote work), work overtime as needed, and travel on overnight business trips
  3. Fluent in both Japanese and English
  4. Strong sense of responsibility, teamwork skills, and communication abilities
  5. Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet use, and e‑mail
